Edinburgh – a joy for visitors

Edinburgh is located on the First of Forth, on the East Coast of Scotland. It is an impressive city, having beautiful architecture with views out to the sea and the nearby Pentland Hills. You can find an extinct volcano, - Arthur’s Seat in the parkland near Holyrood Palace. It is well linked by road, railway and air.

There are many attractions in the city of Edinburgh, the first and most obvious attraction is Edinburgh Castle. The castle is an attractive place to visit and you can also view the Scottish Crown Jewels which also has the Stone of Destiny, Mons Meg, the Prisons of War Exhibition, the Scottish National War Memorial, the National War Museum of Scotland, the Royal Scots Regimental Museum and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards Regimental Museum.

After this, you can spend time the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. It is a very old garden found in 1670 and has the distinction of being the 2nd oldest botanic garden in the UK. It has the privilege of being both a scientific institution and a tourist attraction.

The garden was originally located inside Edinburgh; they were moved out of the city in Leith to be away from the pollution. In 1858 the Temperate Palm House was found and was the tallest such building in the UK.



The Saint Giles' Cathedral is another major attraction of the city, though it does not have a Bishop it is still known as cathedral. This church is the largest Church of Presbyterianism and contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle. The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre is an excellent place to visit for the lovers of this distinctive whisky.

Edinburgh Zoo is also another attraction located on Corstorphine Hill. The animals in the zoo are the like rhinos, koalas, jaguars, tigers, lions, a polar bear, etc. Another attraction is the Museum of Childhood that was opened in 1955. It teaches about how children were raised, dressed and educated in the first half of the last century. There are also many toys, like teddy bears, dolls, train sets and tricycles from all over the world.

The National Library of Scotland and the Palace of Holyroodhouse are other major attractions of the city. You can enjoy the visiting the places of interest.
